Video: Daito ryu against judo throws etc
Hi guys, and happy new year to you all
came across this video and wanted to know if anyone here can tell me who the daito ryu teacher / practitioner is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sx4EwqM7YcI
The second half of the video reminds me of the numerous stories told about Takeda and Ueshiba being unthrowable by judoka.
Cheers!

I often wonder if a pre-req for being a good uke is having no sense of balance. See 1:09 as an example.

Yup, and falling down as a result of someone taking it. Sometimes I think the concept of postional change, dominance and flow went the way of the dodo in most Japanese arts. Most TMA people need to have it all explained and retrained out of them in order to function. I've done it to people with sword, spear, and knife where you control their body through their mind and they become almost non reactive.
The bad part of me says...why retrain them?
The video? No comment other than to say it would have been nice to use a judo guy.

Hell, I was thinking we both know a little 120 lb. women who does a much better Job demonstrating these things than that DR teacher, and that against someone who does know Judo.
Shhhh...she hates being brought up on Aikiweb!
So much...er.. stuff out there eh? Imagine if we had Japanese faces and names Howard?
See ya soon
Call you tomorrow, when I find....or get a new phone!

Re: Video: Daito ryu against judo throws etc
Dan and Howard, I appreciate your comments. The big problem for those of us who try to seek out what "IT" is all about, is all the "fake" or at least non-legit videos, claims and theories out there.
I guess learning what to look for / how to determine if something is real is also a part of the training
BTW, Dan - I managed to get hold of the book you recommended another thread (the one your signature quote is from). Took a while, but was definitely worth the wait. Not saying I understand it all , but it's a very interesting book. Re-read, re-read, re-read

Kristoffer
This guy...isn't fake, that isn't what we meant. He has some connection. What Howard and I were kidding about is that there are people who are a hell of a lot more connected...well, there really isn't even a contest.
I read your PM and watched the video. I'll get back to you later.
Cheers
Dan

Re: Video: Daito ryu against judo throws etc
Hi,
No idea who the main man is.As far as the other men , I suspect they are ludo players rather than judo players.Hopeless attacks, poor , non existent posture and balance. They should be awarded the titles of the Canvas Backed Kids.As far as the main man at the start letting his Uke put Full ??power into his little finger and then being flipping the guys around, sorry the mind boggles.Uke was sitting too far away from his partner to effect any real chance of pinning Toris fingers.I think the Ukes were compicit in this vid.
Cheers, Joe.
