Standard Answer #3: Ask your sensei.

Weird. Then what part of your body touches the mat first?

It sounds like his body is rotating so fast that instead of hitting the arm, he lands on the shoulder or back first. Am i correct?
there's nothing really WRONG with that. It just means you can rotate your body really quickly, should be good for learning breakfalls.

Jimmy- it sounds like you're kind of doing something between a front roll and a tobi ukemi. Talk to your sensei about it. There are times for both, but make sure you can do what you want to do when you want to do it.

Jimmy- landing on your back isn't good. In the beginning, solo ukemi doesn't have enough power or speed to really hurt. But when you get thrown, it's easy to get the wind knocked out of you

I guess it would depend on where and how you are landing. Talk to your sensei or an upper ranked person in your dojo and show them what you do.

thats sort of hard... because the branch of the dojo that i go to... i am the highest ranked person besides the sensei... because this branch is fairly new (even ask Stu Nortan)
