My heart was broken.
It's taken the longest recovery period also, in case you're wondering .

Re: injuries!

I haven't given any injuries, and I haven't received any worth mentioning.

Re: injuries!

Partially torn ligaments in my right elbow from a Shihonage. It's been over 3 years and my elbow is still not the same. I don't think it ever will be, but my ukemi on that side is very light.

Re: injuries!

Blown ACL and torn medial meniscus is the worst and despite surgery and rehab left me with very bad arthritis and chronic pain.

Hyperextended elbow - healed completely, after a year of aching.

Minor shoulder separation, from rolling as a newbie - it still gives me grief in certain weather if I sleep on that side, otherwise ok.

Re: injuries!

my right shoulder ligament torn by excessive nikyo (on the ground) by my sensei in 1995, now it's not as flexible as it was....
no regret, just an experience ...

Re: injuries!

seen:
dislocated big toe coupled with 360 degree skin tear = big toe attached by fleshy bloody things dangling off the foot a half inch or so. ( complete recovery after getting it stiched back on, but he only came back to class once). His toe got caught in the mat (wrestling mat of course) while he was getting spun around for iriminage. not such a bad injury after all said and done but sure was gory looking at the time.

received:
A good smack with the tip of a jo on the left cheekbone. lots of blood and a walnut size gooser, quite a shiner that was.

had a good scare of some tearing in my knee recently, but it seems to be healing well, but that was judo ( beware tori's leg knee barring you during tai otoshi).

separated shoulder and sprained ankle doing jujitsu randori.

took seven stiches on the forehead tanto dori about ten yrs ago.

other than that a few broken toes.

I can say I see more acute injuries in jujitsu or judo, and more chronic stuff in aikido, but that may just be perception.

Re: injuries!

sounds like some of you are training pretty rough! only injury I've received was my own fault with a shockingly bad forward roll.

maybe as I go up the grades, the higher grades won't be so forgiving to me but at our dojo the emphasis is on a light feeling. I hate watching big cumbersome guys forcing techniques, it looks so stiff and physical. they tend to the ones on either ends of injuries I've noticed.

Re: injuries!

I was doing that crouch-down-and-take-the-legs technique (its Japanese name escapes me) and the fellow I was doing it to didn't expect it. When his toes smacked full force into my knee, the two middle toes dislocated at awful angles and the skin between them tore back about and inch or so. Ugh! What a sight!

My worst injury I received from a shihan who applied nikyo so fiercely to my wrist that it made a loud cracking sound. He must have thought it had broken because he let go immediately. Anyway, it swelled up and stayed that way for quite a while. Even three months later it was still very sensitive and somewhat swollen. I don't believe it was actually broken, though I do think my tendons may have torn.

Oh, I also got a tanto shoved into my eye. It went in so far I thought my eyeball was gonna' pop out! Went to emergency where they told me my eyeball had been "scraped." It turned this ghastly blood-red color and was blurry for a few days.

Fun and games, fun and games...

If you have undergone an x-ray you would have found out that you indeed broke your hand. Most probably a spiral fracture on the metacarpals. Same thing happened to me.

A friend of mine broke his neck and was and still is paralyzed from the neck down

Just out of curiousity!
Carotid contusion 1978 (Caused by an accidental collision at full speed with another player while doing multiple attack)...... paralyzed on left side for about a year...... Took two years to make a full recovery..... left with a weakness in my left leg which means I cannot kick so well and have a little difficulty in shikko so do hundreds of squats to stop it going too weak...... other than that, sprained wrists, bruises, broken toes, black eyes, fat lips, neck (muscle knots) .....
Still carried on doing randori and shiai right up until my late forties,
brilliant at sutemi waza!! (only 'cause my left leg has a little balance problem sometimes...... hee hee!)
