Kumijo of Iwama Ryu - how many??
I'm a newbie to Iwama Ryu Aikido, and in class last week we were practicing the 10th kumijo (trust me not to start at the beginning ![Stick Out Tongue](images/smilies/tongue.gif) ). I was wondering how many kumijo there are in Iwama Ryu aikido, and what the names of the individual kumijo were? Any advice or pointers to websites, books, etc, would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Kumijo of Iwama Ryu - how many??
as above 10 plus old and new varations.
If i remember correct Osensei left behind 7 plus some varations, and saito sensei developed the last 3. I think he may have done this aa presention for his 9th dan. I m not sure though if thats true. i dont know how old the last 3 are.

As I understand it. 1-7 is the "original" kumijo that Saito Sensei only formalized as 1 kumijo etc..
But there are several variations on the 1-7 kumijo, newer and older versions.
kumijo 8-10 is Saito Senseis own creation, apparently he created them to have someting new to demonstrate after his appointment to 9 dan.

Re: Kumijo of Iwama Ryu - how many??
Thanks, guys. I found a website that has clips of the 10 kumijo (plus a whole bunch of other excellent ken, jo and taijutsu techniques of Iwama Ryu) - www.aikidokids.com - under the gallery section. The website seems to be down at the moment, but it is well worth looking at.

It works - but sometimes the sever seems to be down - be patient and the website should be up and running again soon.
Just checked - is working right now.
