Anniversary of Morihei Ueshiba's Death
Hi folks,
Today, April 26th, 2005, marks the 36th anniversary of the death of the founder of aikido, Morihei Ueshiba.
Is your dojo doing anything to commemorate this date? If so, please take a moment to share with everyone...

Re: Anniversary of Morihei Ueshiba's Death
We are going to remember this date, maybe discuss some aspects of Osensei´s live and after that class. I think the the best way to conmemorate the date is to train keeping in mind the teachings of Osensei.

We commemorated this at training last night with 200 shiho nage each.

Re: Anniversary of Morihei Ueshiba's Death
Some of us chipped in and bought flowers for the dojo. And we trained . . .

Re: Anniversary of Morihei Ueshiba's Death
I didn't realize the significance of the date, but my sensei and I went to his sensei's dojo outside Tokyo and trained hard.

Re: Anniversary of Morihei Ueshiba's Death
We trained as usual, but loads of people turned up to class - it was a very crowded mat!
And we celebrated the promotion of one of our students to Sandan at the gradings held on Sunday
I think having a thriving Aikido club is the best way to commemorate O Sensei

Re: Anniversary of Morihei Ueshiba's Death
There are no scheduled classes on Tuesdays where I train, but I had a thought come to me in it's most refined form yet, and I thought the least i could do is dedicate it:
If something is done wrong, or incorrectly, that does not negate the fact of it's existence.
It came to me in traffic just as some ding-bat whipped out in front of me, slammed the breaks, then returned to the lane from whence they came. Ordinarily I would have gotten angry at their sloppiness, but I was too busy avoiding an impact to feel adequately indignant.
The reason I bring it up now is that as soon as the episode subsided I couldn't help but think of how this would apply to training, especially to the "You attacked me wrong" syndrome we've all suffered from and witnessed. That's not to say it isn't worth it to apply the right attack to train with the right technique, but sometimes stuff happens...
Anyhow, Happy Aikido Everyone!
logan.

Re: Anniversary of Morihei Ueshiba's Death
Hi Jun, we trained in commemoration of O'sensei's passing last night as well. We practiced empty hand vs. sword, which was quite invigorating since we don't usually practice it that much. Those who practiced also went out to Little Tokyo for some dinner and sake.

Re: Anniversary of Morihei Ueshiba's Death
Our chief instructor had to work his normal job on April 26 but I personally spent it talking with a new student about the concepts of aikido and such and told him about O Sensei. Much fun.

Re: Anniversary of Morihei Ueshiba's Death
We dedicated a few moments to silent meditation on the founder prior to starting class, on the gift we have received from his work, and the tradition we try to follow.
Then we trained pretty hard......with joy
