folder attributes in WinXP

... okay all you Windows XP wizards. Here's one for you. I have a folder that resides on C:\ that has the "read-only" attribute set. I need to unset it. When I deselect the read-only attribute, it resets it.

I need this folder as this is where the softpaks from HP/Compaq install themselves and I suspect that XP2 may have broken it.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Well, for whatever it's worth, I fixed it with the help of Microsoft Support. It appears the access control list had some issue with it and we used a command called "cacls" to modify the directory permissions. Now to reinstall SP2 and all the hotfixes I undid.
