Video recommendations-Chiba Sensei weapons
Hi all,
I would like to get recommendations of videos featuring Chiba Sensei or some of his students, specifically with regard to bokken work and solo kata. I've poked around on the WR website and only come up with the 36-jyo kata, which is not what I am looking for (bokken stuff). Please write in if you know where to find what I am looking for.
Thanks in advance,
Rachel

Rachel:
Try www.aikidoonline.com
They have a tape of Chiba Sensei's kumijo kata.

Dear Rachel,
Up to now, there isn't a video production specifically designed to focus on bokken work - not like the 36 jo basics video at least. You can however find some bokken work at the beginning of a couple of the test guideline videos - but this only covers three basic forms (happo giri, shiho giri, and the 8-count suburi) and the four basic parries which are done in kiri-gaeshi drill format. Other than that, there are a few moments from various summer camps that cover some bokken practices like Chiba Sensei's kiri-otoshi drills. Unfortunately, the rest hasn't been put on film or put into production. Sorry - hope that helps a little.

Thanks! I've got the full compliment of kyu test videos, plus a couple of summer camp tapes, and will have to spend some time going through them (tiny tv/vcr combo, not fun to watch). It completely slipped my mind, but I was looking for the basic forms. Do you know which tape the three basic forms are on?

I have "the sword of aikido" by saotome sensei which has the ASU bokken kumitachi in it plus various exercises. Is this what you're looking for?

Thanks Chad, but I was specifically looking for Chiba Sensei's system of weapons work.
Thanks though!

Hi Rachel,
I'm sorry, I can't check what exactly is on my copy of the 5th kyu guide lines, but the 8 count suburi is being demonstrated by kenshusei on tape 2 of second and third kyu testing guide lines.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Thanks,
