Ki Symbol Outdoor training.

As the space available for our dojo to meet is limited to certain hours I am contemplating making half of the scheduled classes outdoor activities, ukemi and rondori encluded. As this seemed important to O'Sensei what are your thoughts on this mandated?

We sometimes do weapons class outside, when the weather is good (ie in the summer). I like it a lot. I'd say give it a try and see what you and your students think!

Patrik

I am more thinking of our dojo roots in shinshintoitsu and the misogi, by making it mandatory.

A few of us came out of a Indian Restaurant after celebrating passing a Kyu test the other week and started doing breakfalls down the street, didn't feel much, but that may have been the celebratory booze helping out.

In 'Rendezvou with Adventure', I think it is, O-sensei was teaching on a rooftop on what looks like concrete. The people he taught was US-army guys (MP's ?). As usual he tosses his uke around. I think the uke was all red and blue the day after (OUCH!)

William,

We do a lot of outside training (when weather is permissable in the great white north). I brought a tape of one of our weekend intensives in a park to Sosa Sensei last year. He loved the idea. We focused on weapons, and open-hand techniques on uneven ground. Tends to change your movement

What kind of misogi are you planning?

FYI,

Make sure you dedicate a gi and hakama to the cause. The grass stains do come out....but, it leaves the gi dingy.

That was me... I don't know why I suddenly became unregistered, but still, it was me writing... And BTW. Now that I think of it I'm pretty sure it was in 'Takemusu Aiki'.

My appologies, I am new at starting threads, My intent was the training section.

I did not get to that point wiht Sosa Sesei before he passed on. We discussed it on occation, and he seemed to suggest just a regular class to adjust to the reality of the ground. I can take the ukemi but some of the new students i am afraid it will ward them away. As far as Misogi I am more concerned with the idea of aikitaiso rain, sleet or snow, no lightining though as that gets intense here in Louisiana.I really liked the two man Aikitaiso Sosa Sensei world teach and I am very impressed with Fabia Sensei's progression of the taisos in the Society's emrging style. Any suggestions?

I will speak with Fabia Sensei this week in reguards to this matter.

It is always good to hear from someone who knew and trained under Sosa Sensei and appreciated his contribution.

About the gi.

As cheif instructors now in the Society of Aikido Centers, we now wear dark tops (blue or black) and dark hakama, while students wear the white and dark hakama.
