Re: YouTube: Never before seen footages of Shirata Sensei and Saito Sensei
Beautiful demo by Saito Sensei. Notice what he chose to show in his demo: clear basics - with a didactic approach, so the viewers could see the composite parts of each technique. He was teaching! Also notice the characteristic prioritizing of showing the kihon forms of the techniques - so the viewers can see what is going on in the technique. And notice the flowing form he does of the morote dori - just a few times. His ki no nagare forms have fluidity and stability - he makes a point by showing that the flowing forms are there in the legacy, but emphasis is put on the kihon forms. If you have good basics then the flowing forms will be both fluid and effective. He is also using two of the local Sensei from the Iwama Dojo: Kubota Sensei and Owada Sensei. They aren't seen that often as uke in the footage of Saito Sensei, but they have been in the dojo forever - loyally keeping the dojo running. They are still very active today. Respect.
