Dan Hardin in Atlanta, Georgia January 2014

Aikido South is looking to host Dan Hardin in January 2014 at our dojo in Atlanta, Georgia. I am starting this thread to get a feel for interest for a seminar in mid- January. If you are interested, please contact me or response to this thread so I can work with Dan to get a feel for participation.

Re: Dan Hardin in Atlanta, Georgia January 2014

Folks, we are getting close to go time. We need to get our registrations in to Dan by Jan. 3, 2014 or he may pull the plug. If you are interested in coming to the seminar, please contact me and I will send you information about registering.

We have a tentative schedule that includes a Friday evening class. More to come as we nail down details. But first, let's nail down enough support to commit Dan to the ATL.

We need to represent this Yankee in the South!

Thanks!

Re: Dan Hardin in Atlanta, Georgia January 2014

Thanks to everyone for coming to a great seminar. The training was hard, the jokes were funny and we all [maybe] sucked a little less. In wrestling with a couple ways to say several things, I feel it best to split some of my comments.

For those of you who have trained with Dan, we had a great weekend of basic drills, paired exercises and solo exercises. We also saw some great ground applications. For those of you who have not yet gotten to work with Dan, these exercises are based on a simple premise, "aiki" is real, it exists inside us and it can be expressed in our movement. The training was both strenuous and challenging. We discussed both the strengths of aiki and better ways to practice aiki.

Stayed tuned for our next visit.

Yes agreed.

A great weekend with some really good people doing some really interesting stuff.

Thanks to everyone, but especially the people at Aikido South for being great hosts and to Dan for keeping it real and keeping me humble.

Compliments and appreciation to all.

An experienced Taiji and Bjj perspective of someone who has known Dan along time.

Quote:
Dan's second one in Atlanta went even better than the first (I know, that shouldn't have been possible, right? ), at least IMO -- mostly I think because his delivery of material is improving, becoming clearer and more concise. (And partly because he showed, however briefly, how to apply some of that stuff on the ground, which makes me somewhat biased, for obvious reasons. :P)

The guys who didn't "have anything" in terms of internal mechanics a year ago (were never exposed to this stuff, i.e. were doing your standard run-of-the-mill Aikido stuff) and who after his first visit completely restructured their curriculum to train specifically his stuff, are now feeling more solid and "internal" than many tai chi folks I've met over the years. Which means, what he teaches simply works, -- I have now witnessed solid evidence of that. Not that I had any doubts.

He remains the nice and fun and open and humble guy I've met 8 years ago -- and still the last person on this planet I'd ever want to have to fight against (and I mean that literally). One of the most well-rounded martial artists (internal or otherwise) -- and now with a continuously improving ability to transfer all that knowledge... I've said this before, but let me repeat -- anyone who has a chance to go see the man and hasn't yet -- you're missing out big time, no matter what your style is.

Thanks for doing all that great work Dan.
Dmitri
