Zombie Apocalypse and Compassionate Liberation
I was hoping the title might lighten up the recent tensions.
But, indeed, these two articles make for interesting reading.
Perhaps there is room for "Compassionate Liberation"

The face eater was definitely a zombie. The apocalypse shall be starting any day now, depending on how fast it spreads out of Florida. The intestines guy was probably on "legal" synthetic marijuana. That stuff is scary.

I am not one for performing Tantric liberation rites on just anyone, but these folks are lost deeply in a bewildering form of suffering.

All you samurai out there, remember that the second best weapon to use on zombie's is a katana. Because it doesn't require reloading. The BEST weapon, is of course a sledgehammer. Because it doesn't require sharpening.

I heard that the face-eating guy had been taking those "bath salts" they sell everywhere, supposedly for the bath, but actually just a low-life kind of sick high.
This should help get them eliminated from stores, I would hope.

Russia has a worst-case cheap heroin replacement that only gets you high for about 45 minutes and makes your skin look like a lizard.

But perhaps the greatest Zombie Apocalypse is we who simply quit thinking, recieve sound-bite slogans as "truth" and transmit it as if we have learned something. Teach-to-the-test and no-one left behind strategies. Sounds like a crowd of Stepford-community zombies in the burbs.
By the way, David, I have really enjoyed your posts.

David,
Bath salts are designer drugs. They are legal simply because our laws have not caught up to the fact that every time we outlaw one of them, the companies have scientists altering the chemical composition by a few molecules and thus creating an entirely new drug. The news sites keep calling bath salts new drugs, but they have been around for at least 5 years, as both my mother and one of my good friends work in (different) psychiatric units. This level of violence is not even remotely unusual for people who are taking these drugs. My friend was escorting a patient to his new room with 3 police officers, the man broke free, and bit him on the leg. Mind you, this was through a pair of jeans, and the patient managed to bite a chunk of flesh out of his leg before he could be stopped. This was last summer and the scar is horrific even now, not to mention the pain and multiple antibiotics he was dealing with many weeks after the actual attack.
The insidious problem is that the majority of these people are taking the drugs because they believe that because they are legal, they are safe. Which, clearly, is not the case. But if you were to go into a local shop that sells this sort of thing and talk to the owner, you would discover the current incarnation of bath salts being sold are probably only a few months old. They're also sold under the name of plant food, as well as weedkiller. I would assume after all this media attention, the bath salts will most likely stop being used, and they will focus on calling this stuff either plant food or weedkiller exclusively.
Next time you think about the results of the war on drugs, remember that this is one of the side effects.

Sorry Roger, sledgehammer is no good, it weighs too much and if you are surrounded by zombies, you're going to get eaten before you get the third swing in at best. Go with a titanium crowbar instead. Lightweight, but can easy smash a zombie's skull, never needs sharpening, and has the benefit of being useful for breaking into stores to gather supplies!

A friend and I wrote a screenplay for a reverse zombie movie in which the "zombies" are sleepwalkers, unable to wake, unable to stop moving, but otherwise causing no direct harm. The cause and get into accidents but unconsciously and the real monsters are the fully aware people who go out and prey on these helpless sleepwalkers.

Hopefully you are as horrified as I am by the situation. The stuff is also being marketed as "synthetic marijuana." Which again leads to the impression that this is a legal and safe alternative to smoking weed. I don't have kids, and far be it from me to give parenting advice, but if I did, I would be way more concerned about these legal alternatives than if I caught one smoking a joint.

Re: Zombie Apocalypse and Compassionate Liberation
That's why I left the Fed. From my perspective, catching loads via interdiction, only drove up the costs on the street. The user paid the higher price and the drug lords got just as rich.
It lead to a personal thesis. If the gov. declares war on it, the war is not meant to be won. But plenty of industries get rich during the process.
Oh, well, what me worry. I have a plan to protect myself from the human zombie attacks. I have a kuman thong altar to protect me from them. :0

Re: Zombie Apocalypse and Compassionate Liberation
Ok never mind about the kuman thong altar, I am going to meditate with Francisco Pancho. He walks away from a PhD at Berkeley and becomes Gurdjief.
15 minutes till the bell rings.
This kid blows me away.

I think the biggest thing is that it robs people of the ability to distinguish serious drugs from minor drugs. If they say that marijuana and heroin are on the same level, a kid tries pot and says, "Oh, this is nothing. They lied. I guess heroin is ok, too."
Meanwhile tobacco is the real gateway drug and alcohol is a close second.
I read on a CDC site that tobacco annually kills more people than car crashes, alcohol, all illegal drugs combined!
What a screw bunch of laws we have.

I fear that the real gateway drug today is ritalin - methylphenidate
(also spelled ridalin).
Well, meditating with Pancho is always an awesome experience. Such fierce love this kid emits.

Re: Zombie Apocalypse and Compassionate Liberation
FWIW, these "bath salts" are known here in this region of southern California as "Spice" and some of the effects are horrendous. Many can use them without any problem, but there are significant numbers who use them and have psychotic breaks, unfortunately some apparently permanently. The psychotic behavior mimics schizoaffective disorder.
As for the War on Drugs.....I spent most of my adult life on the front lines along the Mexico border and thus far all I've seen are casualties. Mr. Orange makes some seriously valid points.

Ah, the Border. A place of lines and shadows. Hooches in el Monte where you track the sign of much suffering. So many broken dreams and bodies.
