Aikido in Kagoshima-ken, Japan?

I've just been placed in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan through the JET program. Anyone know of Aikido dojos there? Thanks!

Re: Aikido in Kagoshima-ken, Japan?

I trained in Kagoshima and in Kumamoto as a guest with Sunadomari Sensei in the Manseikan but it was quite a few years ago. There was kind of a shinto feel about the training and it was very traditional. There was a lot of subtle body movement and wrist work. Very interesting. And they were very kind to me as a guest (everyone in Kyushu was). I think it was somehow independent of the Aikikai. There were a few Aikikai dojos in Kyushu but I think they were a little more in the north (the Japanese link page is below - looks like nothing in Kagoshima. I know a teacher in Saga). Anyway that's how it used to be. Good luck.

Just go to the nearest sports training center or munincipal hall ( SHIYAKUSHO) in your place and asked if they have Aikido Dojos. This is what I did when I move here in Hokkaido!

Here is another website that lists dojos in Japan. This is what they have for Kagoshima:
http://www.aikido.ne.jp/dojo/kagosima.html

You can also type 鹿児島県合気道 into google and see what turns up. Generally I find that you get much better luck searching for dojos in Japanese

Re: Aikido in Kagoshima-ken, Japan?

Tyler,

While I am not an aikido practitioner, I do study Tae Kwon Do. I was looking for (perhaps in vain considering it is a korean art) to find a Dojang in the area and came across your post.

I am also a JET that is arriving next month in Kagoshima! What part of the prefecture did they put you in? Are you in the city? I would love to chat it up a bit so I can get to know someone in the area from the States.

Regards,
