Hello from Houston!

Hi everyone! My name is Jeremy and I am a fairly new aikido-ist from southeast Houston.

I started practicing aikido at the University of Houston, under Aguirre Sensei, who traveled to teach at UH from the Aikido Center in the woodlands. I practiced for two years and reached 6th kyu, but I then moved off campus and had to re-enter the workforce, and suddenly ran out of time. A couple of years went by and I was able to make it to the Bay Area center and studied under Walter Marker sensei, but life got in the way again and I had to stop once more. Now I'm going to school and working, both full time, and there isn't a dojo within 50 miles that I can go to on a regular basis.

To bide my time, however, I started reading as much as I could about the art, and now I crave aikido more than ever. My physical practice of it has all but ceased, but mentally, I'm hard at work every week trying to learn as much as possible, and I've even started practicing my aiki taiso at home.

Can't wait to make some new friends!!

Cool Re: Hello from Houston!

I went to our Association website of ASU.org and looked at the Dojo locator and found Shobu Aikido of Houston. Check it out.

Doc Sexton

p.s. The ASU is headed up by Mitsugi Saotome.

p.p.s. I looked up the address and telephone number.

Re: Hello from Houston!

Hi Jeremy,

Welcome to AikiWeb.

You can also search for a dojo near you by using the Dojo Search function on this very website (located here).

Hope that helps,

-- Jun
