Ryan Gracie...

Found dead in a San Paolo jail cell. He died one day after being arrested for reputedly stealing a car.
He was being treated with anti-depressants and anti-psychotic drugs. An earlier urine test apparently uncovered traces of cocaine and marijuana in his system. He was 33 and 5 time world champion in BJJ.

Re: Ryan Gracie...

Wow. I don't really follow MMA or BJJ, and I was unaware that any of the Gracies had problems of this magnitude.

I guess it goes to show that martial finess and wisdom do not necessarily go together.

Re: Ryan Gracie...

That is a real shame. My feelings go out to the Gracie Family.

Re: Ryan Gracie...

Unfortunately, it was well known here in Brasil that Ryan had been facing problems with drugs for years...

Nowadays, he was more famous for his street fights and problems with the police..In fact, he was loosing all his top students to others dojos...

I don´t practice BJJ, but I have friends who were Ryan´s students. He was a real talent, but cocaine and crack took his health first and now his life....

My feelings for the family.

One more thing. He was never World Champion in BJJ. They are mentioning his 5 victories in Pride FC.
