Idea for new database?
Hi Jun,
Have you ever explored the possibility of adding a new database to Aikiweb similar to the dojo search tool? Something in the line of training partners search or potential interest search for those of us who are in an area that is far from an existing dojo (or at least not a doable drive)? It might be a really good way to link up people with interest before launching a more concerted effort (e.g. local YMCA, etc.) to see if it is there. Aikiweb seems to be one of the first places people go to see if there is a dojo in their area, so perhaps a "wannabe club/practice partner" search tool could work too?
Cheers, Rachel

Re: Idea for new database?
I second that, but along a different route.
Just like in any other martial art, there is a lot of "clan" behavior in Aikido, not always because of politics or hard feelings.
I live in a large mid-Western city (St. Louis, MO) where there are 5 other Aikido dojo. One of my interests is to see if there are other Aikidoka in the bi-state area (MO & IL) who are interested in an informal "aiki-randori"....being resisting ukes with one another. Nothing MMAish, just some good-hearted informal training. Not to mention those of us who wish to work on the paired Aiki-Ken and Aiki-Jo kata of Saito Sensei.

I've a strong interest in this also. I've been using local classifieds and talking to friends to try and find partners.

Re: Idea for new database?
Perhaps the search would turn up aikiweb users and then allow prompt a p.m., or some sort of filtered email link that would eventually arrive at a user's regular email, such as with craigslist. Personal contact info left open to free search couldn't be all that popular.
Really good idea though. Call it 'Doka Search, and plop it right underneath dojo search. Cozy.

Re: Idea for new database?
I’ve never used one of the dating service web sites but it seems what’s being asked for is very similar to the standard “seeking a relationship” queries. Rather than “Doka Search” how about “The Aiki Doka?” www.craigslist.com seems like a good model and maybe it’s enough to just refer people there?

Re: Idea for new database?
Another shameless plug so as to not let this idea die on the vine. Anyone else think it might be helpful?
