2nd Kyu

Hi John. You'd be right about that (well, except for it being a nice grading... ). I'm looking forward to nikyu more at the moment, to be honest!

Here is the list for my upcoming 2nd kyu test (this next Wed.)

1. Shomen-uchi, Kokyu-Nage (overhead chop)
2. Yokomen-Uchi, Shiho-Nage (side chop)**
3. Kata-Tori, Nikyo (lapel grab)**
4. Mune-Tsuki, Kote-Gaeshi (stomach punch)
5. Ushiro Katate-Tori, Shime Sankyo (wrist and choke)
6. Ushiro-Tori, Kokyu-Nage (rear bear hug)

*Three Variations (different arts) from the following attacks:1. Katate-Tori Ryote-Mochi (front two-hand hold on two hands)
2. Ushiro Tekubi-Tori (rear two-hand wrist hold on to hands)
3. Katate-Tori (one-hand hold same side or opposite side)
4. Katate Tori Ryote-Mochi (two-hand hold on one hand)
5. Shomen-Uchi (overhead chop)
6. Yokomen-Uchi (side chop)
7. Ushiro Katate-Tori Kubi-Shime (rear choke)
8. Ushiro-Tori (high bear hug from behind)
*One technique from the following attacks:
1. Kata-Tori (one hand lapel grab)
2. Ryokata-Tori (two hand lapel grab)
3. Ushiro Kata-Tori (shoulder hold from behind)
*Escape technique from:
1. Both arms and shoulders pinned from the rear.

The organization I belong to have both aikikai and yoshinkan dojo with their respective test requirements;

ryokatatori kokyunage (pivot throw var. required)
ushiro katatori kokyunage ('bowing' var. required)

yokomenuchi kotegaeshi (throw and pin)

hamni handachi waza: katatetori shihonage, katatetori sankyo, munestuki kotegaeshi

*there are specific kihon variations Sensei wants to see, but we need to do other variations as well. This is from an old handbook, so its a bit outdated. Sensei usually will have them do randori at second kyu...prob against 3 people.

Jason reminded me of something, we have written and oral testing as well. At, I think, 3rd kyu to 1st kyu the test is harder and is fill in the blank vice the T/F, multiple choice tests for earlier ranks. Sensei will also quiz us orally (koto shitsumon) and possibly ask a higher kyu to teach a technique. Good luck on your test and have fun! I'm prepping for my long overdue nidan test and its hard to think of anything else in my life!
