Re: 2nd Kyu

Hi John. You'd be right about that (well, except for it being a nice grading... ). I'm looking forward to nikyu more at the moment, to be honest!

Re: 2nd Kyu

The organization I belong to have both aikikai and yoshinkan dojo with their respective test requirements;
Aikikai Shinda Nikyu:
ryokatatori kokyunage (pivot throw var. required)
ushiro katatori kokyunage ('bowing' var. required)
katate ryotetori kokyunage
yokomenuchi kotegaeshi (throw and pin)
katatori menuchi iriminage
hamni handachi waza: katatetori shihonage, katatetori sankyo, munestuki kotegaeshi
ryotetori koshinage (both irimi and gyaku entrance var. required)
maegeri kokyunage
Jiyuwaza

Jo kata 2
Kumitachi 1-5

*there are specific kihon variations Sensei wants to see, but we need to do other variations as well. This is from an old handbook, so its a bit outdated. Sensei usually will have them do randori at second kyu...prob against 3 people.

Yoshinkan Nikyu Shinsa:

Buki waza: jo tandoku kata dai ichi
Bukiwaza (ippon)
-tanto tandoku kata dai ni
-kumitachi jo: kote nido giri (yonhon)

Kihon Dosa: shumatsu dosa ichi (sotai dosa)

Ukemi: tobikoshi ukemi

Kihon waza (gohon)
-ushiro waza ryotemochi jujinage ichi
-ushiro waza ryotemochi jujinage ni
-ushiro waza ryohiji mochi kaiten nage ichi
-ushiro waza ryojihi mochi sokumen irimi nage ni
-shomen uchi hiji ate nage ichi (suwari waza mata wa tachi waza)
-katate mochi kotegaeshi osae ichi
-katate mochi kotegaeshi osae ni

Oyo Waza (sanbon):
-shomenuchi (kaiten yoke) shomen uchi (kumikomi hyakyu hachi judo kaiten) udegarami nage kuzushi ni (kata hizatsuki)
-shomen uchi (kaiten yoke) suigetsu zuki (soto gaiwan yoke) kubi ate kokyu nage ni
-shomen uchi (kaiten yoke) shomen uchi tenkan kokyu nage ni (kata hizatsuki)
-ushirowaza ryotemochi kotegaeshi nage (hashirikomi) ni
-mune mochi taihenko (fumikomi uketome, hyakyu hachi judo kaiten) katate mochi kokyu nage ni

Shitei waza (nihon, basically two waza from any previous techniques on tests)

Mune mochi jiyu waza

Re: 2nd Kyu

Jason reminded me of something, we have written and oral testing as well. At, I think, 3rd kyu to 1st kyu the test is harder and is fill in the blank vice the T/F, multiple choice tests for earlier ranks. Sensei will also quiz us orally (koto shitsumon) and possibly ask a higher kyu to teach a technique. Good luck on your test and have fun! I'm prepping for my long overdue nidan test and its hard to think of anything else in my life!
cheers
