Insurance

I have just started at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and they have agreed to let me instruct aikido. However I need to organise my own insurance. Does anyone know of an organisation that can supply instructors and student insurance?
I don't want to join the BAF as their rules of membership are too constricting.

Most of the UK organisations' insurance is through Perkins Slade. I think they also underwrite the NCF insurance you can get if you have a BAB coaching award.

If you dont want to affiliate to the BAF, have you thought about joining any of the other organisations? There are quite a few listed at the BAB website.

In the UK, most clubs are members of the BAB (British Aikido Board), including the BAF. It is recognised as the governing body for all aikido in the UK. They provide a Nationally recognised coaching scheme and are able to provide insurance. Their website is here

The fraternity I am in (Aiki Budo Fraternity)is a mamber of NAKMAS (national association of Karate and martial arts schools) which covers our member and instructors insurance.

If I can clarify a bit..

No individuals, dojos or clubs are members of the BAB as such, rather it acts as an umbrella organisation for the various aikido associations/federations/organisations/whatever. So for example, all BAF clubs are indirectly affiliated to the BAB, but it is the BAF itself which is a member.

It isn't possible for an individual dojo to join the BAB, it would have to join one of the associations affiliated to it.

(There are about 40-odd to choose from, covering many different styles.)

They dont actually provide the insurance themselves though, they just act as a middleman. So as an independant dojo, it would probably make more sense to go direct to an insurer anyway.
