Fishkill, New York.
Anyone knows of any dojo in the area who would welcome a Shodothug?... Yeah, heading there next week for work. I'll have a car, so I can make it to not too distant places as well.
Does anyone how hard it is to get into New York City from Fishkill? From the maps, it looks fine but I know what NYC traffic is like... Any better way?
Thanks

Re: Fishkill, New York.
Sorry, I am not able to help you with the time/distance/location thing, but........Are you aware that the 2007 Shodokan International/ World Games are about 12 hours away from where you are located?
The dates are August 1-4, in Vandalia , Ohio...How long are you in the States? Nariyama Shihan is instructing multiple clinics, and there are to be many top raked Aikidoka and "Shodothugs" in attendance...I think Current Sensei advised there are close to 150 competitors, with all current champions in attendance.
Email or PM me if you are interested.

Re: Fishkill, New York.
I wish I could have made it to that one. The timing was just wrong.
I'm there only for a week (leaving on the Friday 27) so I'll miss the fun.

Re: Fishkill, New York.
Hi Yann,
You may want to look at:
http://www.aikidoofwestchester.com/
in White Plains. That would be about 40 minutes from Fishkill.
Driving from Fishkill to Manhattan will take you 1.25 to 1.5 hours or so depending on the time/day/weather/etc.
MetroNorth train service is available from that area to Grand Central Station.

Hi Yann,
I live about 20 minutes from Fishkill. You are invited to come train at my dojo: www.kingstonaikido.com
Takes about 45 minutes for me to drive from Fishkill to the dojo and vice versa. I train everyday, every class....the schedule is on the website. Hope you come up to play! PM me for any more info!

Karen, Niel
Thanks! I 'll try to make it to both your dojo if time permits. Niel, I'll try to make it to your on Thursday and Karen, to yours on Wednesday. I kinda want one evening to make sure I can see West Point and I am sure I'll have to do the socialising with the folks at IBM.

Re: Fishkill, New York.
If you are to travel to the USA, do make sure either your passport is machine readable, you have a visa or a green card. Otherwise, they don't let you in.
Will come and train with you guys next time!

Re: Fishkill, New York.
I guess shodothugs must simply look as mean as they sound
I'm sure you've tried the dojo search, right?
Anyhow, if I were you , I would try Karen's dojo in Kingston. While I have not yet been there myself, it is on my list partly for the geographical likelihood of my being near there, and the clincher, because I have trained with one or two of them elsewhere in NY, and always found it worthwhile.
Good Luck breaking into Fortress America ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif) I need to straighten out a passport so I will be able to break out once in a while.

Re: Fishkill, New York.
My current 'home' away from home is south jersey, so when I can get out of work soon enough, I head to Philly, or I head to a more local practice. What I consider my home dojo is in Rochester, NY. This is the first year I have not made it to every seminar between there and Albany. 2 weddings coming up in October, so a stop, drop&roll may be in order.
If I recall correctly, the first time I met your instructor he clocked me on the head, though I had it coming by not getting out of the way, hehe. It was at Konigsberg sensei's seminar in Ithaca NY, April 2005.
I will send a message if it is in the cards. Thanks!
michael.

Hahahahahaha, yeah, that sounds like my sensei. I get clocked on the head on a regular basis for not moving.
If you can swing it, you should come to the Woodstock Aikido 20th Anniversary Seminar in October. We'll be having Sugano Sensei and Yamada Sensei for that one! Should be a lot of fun.
