In General Message in a Bottle Entry Tools Rate This Entry

I love the diversity of the blogs on Aiki Web and I haven't even gotten to many of them. Several of you mention music, here and in the forums.

Just a few random thoughts in general (and it is the name of this category)

Several of you have mentioned cleaning, it is interesting to note what happens to me when someone suggests having music on the radio when I clean. My mind goes, like, Oh No! Music gets to me so I can't concentrate on anything else.

My grandmother had the same thing, a piece of music would go thru her head for days. So today mine is Message in a Bottle, I think it's by Sting, I love music by Sting, the Police, Men at Work etc. and I'm not even sure of most of the words, the music just gets to me, it's really great.

But today it refers to my feelings about Aiki Web. No I'm not beached upon some shore, but if I were, there's maybe not a million bottles with messages, but there are so many to read all over the columns, forums and blogs that it's hard to keep up.

But maybe this quirk of my grandmother's applies to Aikido too, the techniques. Even if you haven't really practiced for years they are still there and if someone mentions it you can almost see it again.

What more can I say? These things will always be part of us, thanks for the messages, the techniques are coming back to me too.

I hope this isn't off-putting to those who don't speak Japanese, but
it's before nine here and seemed like the right greeting, okay I'll add it in English. I just found the Create Entry Button, fortunately,
because I was getting the feeling I was getting too scattered all
over too many threads. Still, I am fascinated by all the topics I've
found, and the many points of view and backgrounds, so thank
you all, especially those who have sent messages and comments
to me,,,,

For those of you who read my previous entry, the snow is still here
but a new location for ski pole use. We are still waiting to have
the well technician back, and while not exactly a Shinto
Princess, cleanliness is an important goal so we continue in
our creative water supply endeavors. Toilets must be flushed!
It's okay to talk about them, I'm sure, due to the emphasis on
cleaning them in the many Tales of the Uchideshi we have
read and heard.

Anyway, we got water by hose from the neighbor, enough to
function pretty well! (no pun intended) and with bajillions of
empty water and milk containers plus a close to eighty gallon
dog bath, numerous buckets and bins we have done amazingly
well considering the circumstances. Then we had the bright
idea of putting the dog bath under the gutter pipe and got
snow melt water, so much it was overflowing.

Sometimes I think this experience was an incentive to
getting back in training from a certain shihan from Hokkaido the
land where it ...More Read More

It occurred to me that I have many memories of Aikido and am
planning to return to practice. Some of you might be interested
in hearing from this "recycled old timer"

Today, I took a walk around the circle in our neighborhood. It
is on the top of a hill overlooking Long Island Sound. I have some
arthritis and found by using a ski pole tapping in the snowbank I
could make it all the way around comparatively rapidly and painlessly. It remains to be seen how far I'll be able to "hike' without the snow and ski pole method when it melts, later on.

My husband does weight training but has promised ikkyo
thru sankyo for New Year's as I wrote in the appropriate thread.
He is from Shotokan, has practiced some Aikido and is
currently enthusiastic about judo. His brother was a high
school wrestler and later on they practiced martial arts
together. There was a Hungarian businessman at our
YMCA who, it seems had traveled in China and taught them
kung fu. This was many years ago. I met them thirty years
ago at the Y.

I've been answering a lot of threads, so decided to get my
own blog, to reminisce and also give new impressions. Being
in a somewhat country setting connected to a rather large
city and having lived for a year and a half in Japan, some
of my observations may be of interest to you. But there
may be interruptions in the narrative, my husband also uses
this computer! Thanks for your interest, if you are reading
this entry.
