It occurred to me that I have many memories of Aikido and am
planning to return to practice. Some of you might be interested
in hearing from this "recycled old timer"

Today, I took a walk around the circle in our neighborhood. It
is on the top of a hill overlooking Long Island Sound. I have some
arthritis and found by using a ski pole tapping in the snowbank I
could make it all the way around comparatively rapidly and painlessly. It remains to be seen how far I'll be able to "hike' without the snow and ski pole method when it melts, later on.

My husband does weight training but has promised ikkyo
thru sankyo for New Year's as I wrote in the appropriate thread.
He is from Shotokan, has practiced some Aikido and is
currently enthusiastic about judo. His brother was a high
school wrestler and later on they practiced martial arts
together. There was a Hungarian businessman at our
YMCA who, it seems had traveled in China and taught them
kung fu. This was many years ago. I met them thirty years
ago at the Y.

I've been answering a lot of threads, so decided to get my
own blog, to reminisce and also give new impressions. Being
in a somewhat country setting connected to a rather large
city and having lived for a year and a half in Japan, some
of my observations may be of interest to you. But there
may be interruptions in the narrative, my husband also uses
this computer! Thanks for your interest, if you are reading
this entry.

Thanks again Carina and Billy, I just thanked you on Niall's "Sliding" entry on Moon on the Water. My computer is slow but showed enough to prove your teacher was the same Aso Sensei who was so kind at early morning practice when I visited Hombu Dojo. I'm really happy remembering he had such a calm way and beautiful Aikido, and I'm glad you are continuing after him.

From one old timer to another, Aikido is for life literally; I am 58, I think! I left Aikido for 10 years and came back two years ago, I teach thank God, no heavy ukemi. http.www.asoryuaikidoclub.net Now I have almost no time for anything else, its great. My teacher was 53 when he started and passed at 86 still doing Aikido. We still have lots to share. Enjoy your return, I still am. Happy 2011. Billy
