While browsing youtube for Aikikai clips, I came across this wonderful clip showing ground work that is very similar to BJJ movements from Sensei Masatomi Ikeda, 7. DAN Aikikai Hombu. I was very happy to see these techniques expressed and demonstrated. I thought I would share this and would like to hear what others think.

Nice post Salim, but it pretty looks like brazilian jiujitsu to me --- something like a cross mount to north and south to mount transition drill (bjj of course has its roots from Judo) It would really be nice if we could incorporate some ground Aiki in our training. Develop techniques of controlling the opponent on the ground. What do you think? One-Aiki, Iking

Hi Salim, Ikeda Masatomi Sensei trained in sumo and judo before joining the Aikikai... He reached up to 4th Dan in Judo.. the techniques he showed in the clip are judo ne-waza. I recognised kesa gatame, ushiro kesa-gatame, yoko-shiho-gatame, kami-shiho-gatame, tate-shiho-gatame. I believe that aiki-principles can also be demonstrated in these waza.
