In General first night, little embarrassment Entry Tools Rate This Entry

back at 'er...hopefully for longer this time. had a case of the 'first night weirds' i guess. walked into the dojo, couldn't remember what was proper etiquette, didn't know who was who...etc. essentially, i made it real obvious i was the new guy.

once class started it was all good though. just kinda went with the flow basically, tried to follow along and realized that things are generally not explained in words as well as what i'm used to. it will take some getting used to but is certainly do-able.

this was the first time i'd met this sensei, sensei O'Malley. i read up on some literature before class and found out he's been training since '81. it was very obvious once we started going through techniques too; he was very fluid, effortless, and effective. it was even more obvious when he would demonstrate on my partner and I I'd forgotten how much fun being uke is.

fortuanetly I remembered how to roll. i realized quickly why wheels aren't square...
to top it off, in the middle of one of my rolls, about 3/4 of the way through class, i heard a rip as i was going over. come to find out my pants had ripped from middle of my rump to about halfway to the knee. fortunately my gi top hangs pretty low, though i'm sure it was still obvious.

ah well, whaddya do?
