IThis is the morning after my first aikido class for some time. Between a divorce, house move, starting a new business and my consultancy work, Aikido just faded out of my life. I've been promising myself and others that I would be back, I finally put myself back on the mat last night. Glad I did!!!
The class was an early evening (5:30 - 6:30) taught by a great friend of mine, Martin Baradell Sensei, a fun and very classical teacher and boy was it hot in there! Mixed abilities and experience, I was in a group with 2 Shodans, a fourth and a third Kyu. Ukemi came straight back to me, the floor was not my enemy for once! Class was over too soon, I was tired but grinning and my dogi and hakama were soaked. This morning I got up without the aches and pains that I expected, In fact I think I'm in a lot better shape than I thought (gave up alcohol in January) and I'll definitely be back on the mat on Sunday.
