In General Missed weapons, Ikkyo through Yonku and watching S Entry Tools Rate This Entry

I missed weapons practice again this week. I have to work on making them more. I think that one of my issues is that I can see progress in my Tai Jitsu, but not in my weapons work. This is frustrating, and instead of working harder on my weapons work by doing Katas outside of class or the like I tend to neglect the whole area. I have to change this pattern and start working on them myself on time available to me outside of the time that I have available in class time. Especially since I have a new Boken as a Christmas present from M.
I am going to try and set up a schedule with Noel to practice at a set time each week outside of class in a park or something.
With Christmas parties that have mandatory attendance, and a nasty cold, my Aikido training seems to have been thrown off. This is frustrating, but seems to be part of the ways of life.
Today I managed to get three classes in.
In the morning class we worked on ikkyo through Yonkyu from Shiho Nage, then focused on one of the techniques (we each chose what we needed to work on), and worked on it for a while. I was working on Ikkyo. Do you ever actually learn that technique?
I worked with a couple of people that were really hard to work with on Ikkyo. It was interesting to be able to understand some of the factors that made them harder to work with than others, but frusterating to not be able to solve those problems myself as Nage. Sensie came over a few times and we spoke about what was the issues here and there, he gave me some pointers, but it still was frustrating. After morning class I went out with Noel and we spoke about it for a while. It was interesting and he gave me some more tools to use in various senerios. He also helped me to understand that not all of it was my fault as Nage, and that some of the people that I was working with in the morning class, are new, and have poor Ukemi skills, and that I was doing well considering what is was that they were able to do, and making sure that I did not hurt them. I still have some attachment to the techniques "Working" when I am doing it.

Second class the basics class we worked on ikkyo from Shoman. M's ukemi is getting better and she is understanding a lot more of it. The issues that she is having are typical from where she is in starting out, however she is quite frustrated with some of them. Somehow she managed to change her ukemi style for ikkyo and managed to rub two spots on her elbows completely raw in the process. She sat out the second class because they hurt so much. When I found out about it, I told her that we would resolve the issue first thing back on the mat on the 3rd or 4th when we get back.
In the final class of the day worked on Ikkyo through Yonkyu for a while again, this time I focused on Yonkyu for a while, I still have issues with this technique especially in the ura version, I have a tendency to loose connection with the uke, and try and drag them across the room instead of feeling where the energy is and flowing with it. Frustrating!!!!!
Sensei demonstrated anything that we asked for on Rick. It was great, Rick was barely moving at the end of the demo. A lot of people were calling out techniques and parts that they were having issues with. It was wonderful watching Sensei. There is a lot poetry and flow in his movements.
I worked with Rick a little on this, and then we focuse on Nikkyo and Ikkyo for a while.
Then there was Jui Waza, for another 15 minutes or so. At the end of the class I was so tired that M had to drive home! The cold that I have is not helping either.
