injuries, I seem to be plagued as of late, ankle sprains, lacerations(nothing major) just enougfh to keep me off of the mat for a while, it can be extremely frustrating at times, closing in on my Brown Belt, technique is becoming second nature, starting to be creative with my Aikido, after a 3 week layoff due to work and in juries combined my Ukemi has fallen apart, I need to become comfortable again rolling around and falling, need to become more centered while on the mat, I asked Sensei to order me 2 new Gi's and he replied, "1 seems like plenty if you're only going to practice once every 3 weeks!", low blow Sensei, but well deserved I must add, I feel guilty when I'm not at class, whether the reason is legitimate or borderline me being a whimp, I think some early morning prctice sessions with my Iado should get em some much needed motivation, beautiful location in my backyard on 96 private acres of Catskill Mts forest, I can sit and meditate with the Black Bear, Deer and Wild Turkeys who frequent my front and back yards, most likely because of the huge Mt stream that runs through it, I find myself reverting to the tactics I often used to make it through College and Semi-Pro football seasons like, constant icing of the joints, stretching before bed and when waking, and sleeping more than I should on the weekends, I hope my body starts to catch up soon...

Billy Blanks can't be the only one thinking along these lines, what I meant by "one of THOSE guys" is that I currently practice NGA or Nihon Goshin Aikido, I discovered Aikido when invited to the Sho-Dan Test of one of my closest college friends. I soon went out and found the closest dojo to me which was Aikido of Staten Island, a USAF school run by Ralph Wemberly Sensei. I made it through almost 2 yeras of training and my Go-Kyu test there before work required me to move, but nonetheless I was hooked. I soon found myself practicing at Woodstock Aikido and enjoyed a soldi 6 months of almost daily practice their with Harvey Konigsberg Shihan and many of his very talented Sempai. Once again work, and an angry girlfriend, got in the way of training and I ended up moving. This brought me to Aikido of Portland Maine, where I spent another 6 months on the mat with many fine Sempai of Kanai Shihan of the New England Aikikai, I soon found my way back to NYC and Aikido of Stat ...More Read More
