Dojos in Nagoya

Taking a queue for the gentlemen asking about Honbu; any recommended dojos in Nagoya? I live in nearby Toyohashi and would like to practice a bit more if possible. Thanks for any advice.

Re: Dojos in Nagoya

I can recommend the Tashiro Dojo. When he was a Hombu deshi, Chiba Sensei used to teach there and when I came to live in Japan I would sometimes travel up to Nagoya and train there when he was teaching.

You can find a link to the dojo's home page on the Aikikai's web site (Japanese only).

The main dojo for Sensei Maruyama's Kokikai is in Nagoya:

My sensei studied under Sensei Maruyama. When I visited Japan I was considering visiting the dojo in Nagoya. I was told by some senior Kokikai people from Philadelphia (Pa. USA) that I might need an introduction to train there -- so I'm not sure if the dojo is open to visitors. I only know that it *exists.* Enjoy!

Re: Dojos in Nagoya

I realize that this is an old thread, but I have wanted to visit Tashiro dojo since I moved to Japan last summer, because my main sensei was one of Chiba sensei's kenshusei in the mid 90s. I have tried to email and call them but have had no luck with the info on the website provided on this forum. Does anyone possibly train there, or know of another way to contact them?

E-mail the Aikikai Hombu directly. Send the mail to Hayato Osawa Shihan, with a copy to Mariko Takamizo Shihan. Takamizo Shihan understands English well.

Hello Joseph,

I'm not Chris but I train with him in Hamamatsu. I'm not sure I'll be around when you come, but the dojo is at Hokubu Junior High School behind Shizuoka University campus and training is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 pm (people usually arrive a bit earlier to warm up). There are several buses from Hamamatsu Station that pass the uni. Send either me or Chris a pm for details. I have heard of you through another Kokikai student and it was all good stuff. It would be great to have a chance to train with you. Apologies in advance if I'm not around at the time but I'm sure you'll have fun with Chris at least.
