Going to Walldorf, Germany

I'll probably fly to Walldorf, Germany next week for week-long work. If you know some dojo around with good reputation, please let me know. I'll not have a car, unfortunatly.
It will be a real pleasure to drink a German beer after practice!
thx

Re: Going to Walldorf, Germany

Hi Nagababa,
welcome to good old Germany.

I guess you visit Walldorf (close to Mannheim). Unfortunately I do not know this area.

If however you come to Moerfelden-Walldorf near Frankfurt/Darmstadt, there are a lot of opportunities.

Hope the best for your visit.

Hi Dirk,
It will be 69190 Walldorf, close to Frankfurt am Main. But Frankfurt is about 100 km......impossible to go after a work without a car.

Szcepan,
in Germany, 100 km is not seen as close

But you are close to Heidelberg, which you can reach easily by public transport (less than 15 min from station to station). I found http://www.psv-hd.de/Aikido/index.htm , which is related to Aikiai, Deutschland and Shinki-Rengo.

It is easy to reach with public transport and you can get home until late in the night.

They train Mondays from 8 to 9:30 p.m., Tuesdays from 8:30 to 8 p.m., Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Fridays from 6:30 to 8 + from 8 to 9:30 (daito ryu).

If you find them, have much fun.

Regards Dirk

Looks good! I'll try to go for sure.
I saw that you live close to Frankfurt, too! How about practice together saturday? I have a friend in Frankfurt who has a dojo. We can practice in his place, they have aikido class saturday. May be some friends from Belgium will come either!

Saturday looks fine, I just have to ask my family CEO for approval .

Yes, I live really close to Frankfurt, I work and practise Aikido in Frankfurt.

Tell me when and where, and I will try to come. But do not expect too much, just 3rd kyu

Fine,
I've been there once, but I never met Zenon himself. It seems as if I can get there on Saturtday. night? - I thought they have morning classes (9am - 12)

Re: Going to Walldorf, Germany

Obviously we talked about different Saturdays. I had nice practice today, though. Hopefully I can persuade my wife once again next week. In any case, have a nice week in Walldorf

Re: Going to Walldorf, Germany

oopppsss. I'm very sorry, Dirk, not to be very clear. I'll be in Zenek's dojo Saturday 4 Ferbruary.I'll give you tel. number as soon as I'll be at my hotel so we can have more direct communication. In meantime, what are main differences between a style of your dojo and this in Höchst?
best regards
Stephane

Re: Going to Walldorf, Germany

No problem, it was my fault as well, and I had a nice time.

Talking about style is very difficult for me, especially from one training session. In general, I am senior enough to train in many styles, but not senior enough to identify the essence of the differences.

Most differences I have recognised are due to the fact, that in our dojo we have only two training sessions a week, and thus much less weapon training than Hoechst, and we are only beginner students - me, holding sankyu, being the dojo-sempai.

And my mistakes are all the same in all styles . Well, I thought, my suwari-waza was not too bad, but on Saturday I failed totally.

Re: Going to Walldorf, Germany

Hi Szczepan,
it was a pleasure to get instructed by you.

Maybe for me it was easier than for many others as making mistakes in one style is as simple as doing so in another style , and I am far away from doing things right.

I was my first dynamic multi-uke jiyu waza - up to now on my level in jiyu waza the technique should be done "correctly" and to keep us calm the uke had to wait for the technique being finished. That type of training seems also to be missing in that dojo, as some of the yudansha didn't perform well either - as far as I felt.

Whenever you are in this area, tell me and I try to come. And maybe next time I can convince some of my dojo fellows, maybe even my sensei.

It is very nice having met you face by face.

And it was much fun.

Regards Dirk

Re: Going to Walldorf, Germany

Hi Dirk,
Multi-uke jiyu waza is very difficult at any level, we practice it last 10 minutes of every class. Then after the while it becomes kind of 'rutine'. At that time you get more freedom to apply any technique you want.

best regards
