Re: "Going to the mat for my son"
This is very touching indeed. I knew a mother in her late fifties who dragged herself to a karate class to encourage her mentally retarded son. But that was her son, her own flesh and blood. Not all stepfathers are capable of something like this.
I was once talking to a child who wanted me to buy him something. We had the following conversation:
Me: ask your father.
The boy: he's not here.
Me: ask him when you get home.
The boy: I don't know where he is.
Me: but what about the man who drove you here?
The boy: he's not my dad.
Me: but he takes care of you.
The boy: I don't know.
The man we were talking about is married the the boy's mother, and they have a six year old child. I don't want to ask for details, but this man and this boy have been living under the same roof for more or less six years. And that's the kind of relationship that they have?
Thank God for all you stepfathers out there who care for their wife's children, and also for all you stepmothers who care for their husband's children.
