Hey Janet,

Yes, some of those premium rums are very brandy or cognac-like. The Santa Teresa I linked to is the first (only?) rum made using the "Solera" method of cascading oak barrels. The Pampero Aniversario is not as good as the Santa Teresa but it's OK and more affordable (and comes in a nice leather pouch ).

As far as scotch I only knew blends. My friend who moved to Scotland recently introduced me to single malt and now I have to buy more stuff... not good for the wallet.

I had followed the links on your original post - yes, that is most intriguing rum!
As for scotch....I'm sorry, I was the odd one out at many an aikido-l seminar party because to me any differences between these ambrosial single malts they all oohd and ahhd over were, to me, like distinguishing between kerosene and sterno....feh. Y'all can keep it.
