New Member and I need your help!

I used the Dojo Search tool a while back and found a dojo that was in my town. I emailed them and they never responded. I'm wondering how up to date the dojo search engine is. and if it is at all possible for me to get the phone number for the dojo in my town. All I got was half of an address and a dead end email address. Please respond, i'm extremely anxious to dive into Aikido.

ouch... i'm so cool it hurts.

Each entry in the AikiWeb Dojo Search Engine should have its corresponding "Last Updated." That should give you an idea of how up-to-date that dojo information is.

Perhaps if you give us where you're located, some people can give you some help in locating a dojo?

Try the phone book. Don't do anything rash. Make informed decisions.

Binghamton NY, i'm probably ten minutes from the address of the dojo that I found. And I can't find a phonebook anywhere. I've tried Internet phone books but they all, how do you say, ah yes.. SUCK.

ouch... i'm so cool it hurts.

okay so the search engine last updated that dojo on April of 2001. The dojo's website is not informative at all in terms of contact info. And also it says there schedule is "W 6pm" does that mean that they only hold Aikido class once a week? guh! I hate binghamton. Back home in my town of Millwood NY there's a sweet dojo about 15min from me, but I won't be home for more than an month at a time. GRRRRRRRR! time to do something "rash".

ouch... i'm so cool it hurts.

But it's the hometown of Rod Serling, creator of the Twilight Zone !!!!

Have you tried contacting the university to see if they have a club ??

Found an aikido club that practices at the university. You probably have to be a student, but maybe if you explain your situation and your desire, they may make an exception....

There also is a jiu jitsu club.

I am a student and I DID sign up for the Aikido club, but guess what. Last year they didn't have anyone to get the club going so it never got off the ground. This year, same deal. Nobody wants to step up and take control. I'm not willing to do it because I've never tried Aikido before and I'm not sure that I'm going to like it. So even though they have that information there, there is actually no club. I HATE BINGHAMTON.

ouch... i'm so cool it hurts.

As for the twilight zone. I am in the twilight zone. The other week i was telling my roommate how I was expecting to find so much racism up here and that I was surprised that my narrow minded stereotype of northern NY cities was completely incorrect. Binghamton is actually a very urbanized town. Just that night, in a cab on the way to a Frat party, the Taxi Driver exclaims "F***ing N1**ers Everywhere!" He obviously didn't realize I'm dark skinned. I HATE BINGHAMTON.

ouch... i'm so cool it hurts.

It's a long drive, but when I'm in the area on business, I train with Katagiri and/or Bieri Sensei up in Ithaca. They are _excellent_.

Best Regards,

Greg Jennings

At a guess, I`d say Wednesday at 6pm

A difficult problem is easily solved by asking yourself the question, "Just how would the Lone Ranger handle this?"

you should come and experience the dull endless cycle of misery and depression mixed with rainy weather and racist townies. then add a drop of "i'm a visual arts major and my schools art department is rivaled by the local elementary school" and you'll be up to speed on exactly why I hate Binghamton.

ouch... i'm so cool it hurts.

Yet another escapee from the endless grey torment they call "SUNY-Binghamton" here...I never did find any place near there that offered aikido classes, including the university. The best I can offer you is to move out here to Boston when you graduate/build up enough money/move out of that shack on Front St.

BTW, if you do achieve critical mass of aikidoka, let me know...I may have some friends out there looking for a dojo.

Alex
