Who says tenchinage doesn't work...
There is a cute little 8 year old boy that goes to aikido at my dojo. We don't have a separate kids class because I guess the teachers tried it before and it didn't work out. ANYWAY, This kid has been taking aikido for a couple of months now. Today at school a bully came up to him (I guess at recess) and grabbed both of his wrists. So, he did did tenchinage... AND IT WORKED!!! He didn't hurt the bully, but it made him fall, and scared him enough to make him run away!

Mallory... is that for real or just a rumor? Sorry to doubt you, but if it IS true... it'd be cool to see it make the paper! (*hint hint*)
Have a good one!

Of course Tenchinage works! The lower hand cuts down and the upper hand cuts to the back of Uke's shoulder. If Uke lets go, you slide up the inside of the arm to the armpit. Let go of that!!! It works because it takes the balance!!! That's Aikido!

Yes it's true, unless his dad came in early just to tell Sensei a lie... The kid is prety smart too, and I dont think he would lie about something like that either.

Tenchi-nage, or agamae-ate as we call it, works really well. It's one of the best techniques to do in randori and if the timing is right, uke just falls with no effort.

What I was about to type before my finger sliped -- hell, it has been dislocated on Monday so I fogive it -- was:
It is nice to see Aikido being used by kids to defend themselves against bullies. It shows that you can protect yourself _and_ not be kicked out of school.
Nice story.
