Post Quick Question

Hi, I'm a new member here on these forums, and I am making my first post. I've been in Aikido for about 3 months now, almost 4 and enjoying it a lot. Please excuse me if this post does not belong here, but I have a question. I just purchased my Gi. Well, I was wondering if someone can suggest a website that has pictures telling me how to put on my belt, or can someone explain to me how to put the belt on. Thank you all in advance, and again I'm sorry if I posted this is in the incorrect website.

Re: Quick Question

I just take the middle of the belt and put in in the front. I wrap it around once until I have the ends back in front. Then I just tie it off with an old-fashion square knot.

There are fancier ways to tie a belt. You might be better to ask someone senior in your dojo how to do it. Just so your belt looks like everyone else.

Welcome to Aikiweb.

It is not practice that makes perfect, it is correct practice that makes perfect.

Re: Quick Question

Thank you for the quick reply. I have class tonight, and I was taught that I wrap it around once and then again but I tuck it under so it looks like one belt but I do but if I remember it was left side under right side on top. I could be wrong but from there on I'm lost.

Re: Quick Question

Nick,
As Ted stated some dojos have a particular way they want the belt tied so asking there is always your best bet.

Personally I put the middle of the belt just below the navel (where your center is) and bring the right side around behind me and back to the middle. Then I bring the left side around behind me with it lying directly on top of the other so as you stated it looks like one belt.

Then when the left end comes back around to center and overlaps the end from the right it tucks under the bottom of both lengths and comes out the top. Then you tie your knot and you're done.

Hope that makes sense.

Harmony does not mean that there are no conflicts,
for the dynamic spiral of existence embraces both extremes.

Re: Quick Question

I recall there was a website I saw on here once that showed how to do it.

Re: Quick Question

Try this site:

http://www.shitokai.com/tying-belt.php

There is a site out there that has a video clip of how to tie a belt.

Luck,
-C
