Re: New Dojo

Paul,

You have a great many choices in Columbus. I am partial to the Columbus Aikikai, as I previously trained under Frank Hreha Shihan. Dan McConnel Sensei is very friendly. However, I had the privilege of practicing with folks from most of the rest and their Aikido is excellent too.

Columbus Aikikai, ASU, http://www.hilliardmartialarts.com

Aikido School of Central Ohio, Inc., ASU, http://www.aikidoschool.org

The Circle Of Harmony, Tomiki, http://www.aikicircle.com

Aikido of Columbus, USAF East,

Seibukan, Yoshinkai, http://www.columbus-karate.com

My dojo in Twinsburg, Ohio is a TenShin dojo--that is, traditional Aikido with Steven Seagal Shihan's unique randori deflection techniques. We also train in aiki jujutsu, but I am not familiar with those in Columbus.

Best of luck in choosing. You are welcome to train with us if you should ever be in the Cleveland area.

Re: New Dojo

I wholeheartedly reccommend that you visit Aikido of Columbus, and speak with sensei Paul Linden. Best of luck to you!

In gassho,

This group is not Shodokan, but somewhere amongst the non-competitive offshoots. There is a competitive mainline Tomiki-style dojo in Grove City. Their contact info can be found on the JAA webpage.

Rodger Pyle's lineage is Chudokai, but I don't think they are currently affiliated with anyone. Definitely a Yoshinkan flavor though.

There are also Yoshokai (another Yoshinkan offshoot) and Kokikai (Ki-society offshoot) groups at OSU.

Finally, there's one person that I know of who teaches a style of AJJ in Columbus, but I don't think he is teaching a public class. AFAIK he is doing what you might call MMA with a private group of students right now.

Re: New Dojo

Giancarlo,
I certainly did not mean to leave any groups off the list. I appreciate your efforts to make it more complete.
