Michael Tan, Sensei- Aikido at the Red Barn
Hello, My name is Michael Tan , 48 yrs. of age and have been training since 1964, at the tender age of three. The difference between all of you who seek to criticize instead of accept or embrace those who may be different such as me or my schools belief's is that you chose to train. I was never asked if I wanted to try martial arts . My father said train and I trained. I have used my art in law enforcement, personal security work and as a bouncer for over twenty years with my skills and art having already been established in numerous public venues and departmental situations.
You see I am Asian, born and raised overseas to an Asian father and a Caucasian mother. We train for life, not business, not competition, not even as a hobby. But for the bettering of oneself. I have my family's training, but have only been in the Aiki arts for 30 years. I have trained to enlighten myself and my students . To stay true to the original premise of the martial arts, to service, to protect, and to embrace life.
I do not go around challenging people, but because of the "open mat policy" people are concerned. Please, I only seek to reveal Aiki to those who seek to confirm. To George Leyard, Sensei, Domo Arigato, I have respected your writings for years and I appreciate your comments Sir. My sister lives in Snohomish, WA. and I would be honored and humbled to maybe some day stop in and perhaps I might be able to train with you. To all, I say remember O'Sensei's wish about Aiki being a gift to all the world. Why so critical people? Where's your willingness to blend, accept and embrace?

Sensei Tan
I say do your thing and just be you. Everyone
else is. I think Aikido is more like the world than
we realize. There are all types, shapes, an ideologies
we may not all agree or like them all but they are here.
I like how you train by the way. Keep it up.

Oh by the way Jason Jordan, I use to have a school in Oklahoma, a very good friend of mine from the Jyushinkai style Russell Waddell Godan, is from the Dallas area. Do you by chance know of him? The Aiki world is a small one , just curious.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with him. Also, I really need
to update my profile. I am no longer in TX. I am back
home in the Caribbean (St. Thomas USVI)
So if anyone is ever on Island please...おねがえします!!!
