Suspended practice? (COVID19)
Just curious to know and see whether all aikido practice has been suspended everywhere in hopes of delaying and reducing the spread of COVID19?
So many things are closed and shut down very suddenly lately.

Re: Suspended practice? (COVID19)
Our gym shut down last night until 4/1/20.
We will meet up in a park to do some Internal Power practice on Saturdays. Some members are staying away from that because spouses work in hospitals, and they are being extra careful. Others who travel a lot are trying to stay put at home in case they are carrying.

Re: Suspended practice? (COVID19)
Our dōjō is completely shut down like all other "non-essential" businesses in the Bay Area. However, Sensei intends to keep the energy flowing the hi-tech way, in fact he's already put out a Vimeo featuring Saito shihan.

Re: Suspended practice? (COVID19)
cool. Sounds like everyone is taking good precautions.
I like the outdoor practice idea, but unfortunately I think it's still too cold here to practice outdoors.
Heh, smart hi tech idea!
Gonna be pretty bored without actually doing aikido here for at least the next 2-3 weeks.

Re: Suspended practice? (COVID19)
We have stopped practices for now. We will look at outdoor practice options, but we are taking a wait and see approach.

Re: Suspended practice? (COVID19)
Yes we have decided to cancel all training for at least 2 weeks. Most likely more.
This is accordance with the guidelines of the national Danish Aikido Association.

Re: Suspended practice? (COVID19)
Just informed that we will be conducting live classes via webinar. Definitely hi-tech Aiki, or should we call it iKIDO?

Lol, good one! Watch out for the trademark on the i
Will everyone be virtually doing techniques to each other and virtually throw each other too? If so, what will happen during lag/delays? Virtual attacks too? Frozen or laggy ukemi would look so cool and funny
Hahaha

Re: Suspended practice? (COVID19)
We have also shut it down until at least the end of March. Our dojo has a number of videos available on our website and has recently added a half dozen more, on warm-ups and basic weapons. Our seminar at the end of May might be impacted, depending on how the situation progresses, e.g. test candidates may find that they are short practice days for their kyu exams. No outdoor sessions planned here in Minnesota anytime soon!

Re: Suspended practice? (COVID19)
The United States Aikido Federation has 195 dojos as of January. This Wednesday they put up an online spreadsheet asking member dojos about their plans to close or stay open. Two days later, 75 dojos have responded that they have closed.
I closed my dojo on 5/13. We have around 7 students over 60 years old, and I thought it irresponsible to endanger them.
