Training Costs?

Hello everyone,

I was wondering, how much do you guys spend on training. Aikido after all as a Martial Art, is a non academic education that we should pay for.

Here, we usually pay $10 - $20 a month, depending on the Dojo. There's also a membership fee at the begining, then you go into the monthly.

Re: Training Costs?

I conducted the following poll twice over the years: "How much do you pay each month for your regular aikido classes (in US dollars)?"
http://www.aikiweb.com/polls/results.html?poll_id=286 - 8/27/2005
http://www.aikiweb.com/polls/results.html?poll_id=121 - 7/13/2002

Also, here are some threads on this topic:

check my dojo's monthly fee
How much do you pay?
How much does Aikido cost?
How much does your Dojo Charge?
Average $$$ per pop

Hope that helps,

-- Jun

Re: Training Costs?

Well club fee, new keikogi or hakama, bokken or jo from time to time, one or two books a year plus some dvd, some seminars, most around here, but also one or two , which require traveling, could some up to 2000 USD a year. This year probably even fairly more than this.

Regards

Dirk

Um... you are planning on explaining that figure, correct? How in the name of Amaterasu O Mi Kami did you spend 50 grand on training?
Did you have to have your wrists reattached or something? Did you mean "pesos" instead of "dollars"? Did you have to but a new Mercedes to transport yourself to and fro the Dojo?

I am really curious! (and envious... I think)

I must not fear.

Would that fall into the category of "opportunity costs?"

For 50,000, you better be learning how to fly or catch bullets with your teeth.

Re: Training Costs?

I pay $60/month in dues, which comes to $720/year. However, the way my math works, I look at aikido as actually saving me money. It saves me from having to see a shrink (roughly $100 a week or every two weeks if I'm feeling good), keeps me from spending too much time and money at bars, plus rehab after that gets outta hand ($25K for the first 31 days, another 30K for extended care). Then there's the whole "keeps me off the streets and out of jail", saves a ton of money on lawyer fees and court costs, lost wages, etc. So, in all honesty, aikido is like a savings plan!

Oh, well, put it like that...

I guess it only cost me $30,000 to train this year. And I didn't get much training done.

My training costs are going *way* down next year. My dojo is closing at the end of January.
