worst injury you've ever heard of/seen

Morning everyone,
I wasn't there personally, but I heard the story. We had someone at our dojo who had been there for a little while. She was put into a nikkyu hold (where she was down on one knee in nikkyu) proclaimed it didn't work, and stood up, breaking her own wrist. The cracking sound stopped class.

In Aikido I've seen a collar bone snap.

But about 2 years ago in BJJ here in NZ (not at my club) a poor bastard got "stacked" (where to pass someones closed guard people will bend you over like a pretzel and put their weight on you - this transfers to the guys neck underneath) and his neck was broken, he is now in a wheel chair.

The worst I know of was an acquaintance performing randori during a dan test. She dropped to do a sudori and was struck, probably by a knee, in the neck. She was instantly paralyzed, thankfully temporarily. An ambulance ride and a few days in the hospital led to a full and complete recovery. She currently practices and teaches aikido. Scary at the very least.

I once has my big toe dislocated and 3/4 ripped off. Not sure how it happened but I think it got caught on the joint between two mats.

Not as serious as necks being broken but at least two people puked including the guy who put it back. The worst part of it was spending 6 hours in the NHS emergency room leaking on the floor.

Broken ankle (fracture of the left distal fibula) Oct 2012. Just a bizarre accident, where my foot stuck to the mat and the rest of my body kept moving during ukemi...you could hear the bone snap...LOL...

All healed...still has a plate a a few screws...
