Budo And Who We Are

Unlike sports, budo isn't just something you do in the dojo. Budo is supposed to affect you and change who you are. I write a little about this in my new blog post.

Has your budo practice changed you? If so, how?

Re: Budo And Who We Are

Budo has taught me that the power in one's fist must not be taken lightly, especially in regards to life and death. And to be worthy of that power, one must both respect, and aim to achieve that fist's full potential.

Unfortunately, few manage to do both.

Oh man....

Going on 7 years ago I walked into the dojo just hoping to learn some things to make me a better horseback rider. I hardly expected it to turn my world completely upside down and transform both myself and my life in ways I could never have imagined.

What ways has it changed you? I'm curious about your experience looking to be a better horseback rider and getting more than you expected out of the training.

I know I was a skinny, philosophical geek who turned into an athletic guy who could coldly stand down jerks.

That is sort of a tale...Lets just say... everything changed. My mental outlook, my thought patterns, how I deal with people, stress, conflict, fear, my means of making a living, my living environment, the type people that are part of my world....

You will be able to read about both aspects in Quentin Cooke's new book when it finally comes out.
