I Need A Good Brooklyn Dojo

Hello Aikiweb:

Anyone out there living in Brooklyn who wants to recommend a dojo?

My ideal situation:
1. Is friendly, but leans more toward serious training
2. Is serious, but half the dojo isn't nursing an injury
3. Has more than 5 women
4. Or even better... has women sempai.

Thanks for any and all input.

This thread has been moved from the Anonymous forum to the General forum.

Please note that the Anonymous forum is intended for "delicate" subject matters for which people have a need or want to keep their identities from being revealed. I encourage people to keep this in mind before starting a thread in the Anonymous forum.

There is also the AikiWeb Dojo Search Engine ("dojo search" on the left) in which you can search for dojo specifically within Brooklyn or within a certain radius. For example, searching for all dojo within 10 miles of Brooklyn (Kings County) shows 10 matching dojo.

I'm partial to Jikishinkan, myself:

www.directmind.com

It's a really good group there. I'm sorry I don't get to visit them more often.

Hello,

It was I who posted this originally--for some reason I wasn't able to log in yesterday, but was burning to ask the question (sorry, Jun).

I have looked on the dojosearch (and am piqued by Jikishinkan as well)...

I asked because I thought I might elicit a personal experience or two. I stumbled into my first dojo through a college class, and am finding that I do have opinions now about where I go now that I have choices.

Thanks Sarah.

By the way, has anyone else found a new dojo after only a year or two of training? It feels weird, like I'm going to have to start all over.

Peace,

Deb

Under rules: "20. Do not teach Aikido techniques to non-students without permission. This is to prevent misuse and injury. "

Interesting.

I've done that a few times. Things change .

I attended the BOND STREET DOJO in the East Side of Manhattan, check them out. It is a pure Aikido Training Dojo, with 2 female Sempai.

Good Luck!

Aikido in Manhattan is TOO expensive! How do you and Lyle do it? Are you investment bankers? (just kidding)

Seriously, though. Thanks for the kind words, Lyle. I am checking out Jikishinkan next week, and I am psyched to get started again.
