What brings you joy...

Hello everyone!
What brings you joy and how is that helping you grow?

It's been quite some time since I participated here. I am very grateful for all the many points of view I was able to experience thanks to this site.

These days I work in a job where I work with children who have emotional and behavioral challenges. They're quite young and exceedingly innocent, despite their behaviors. I'm rarely sure what to make of it, honestly.

Yesterday I came across a DVD Joe Curran mailed to me quite some time ago and I've been wrangling with some localized aikido experiences which have been very personal and poignant. Suffice to say I am enjoying the process of my training and whatever it may be, it is mine and I am trying my best to make the most of it.

Most recently, that which brings me joy is family, not necessarily blood relations; my yard, which was worked by my wife's grandfather; and my job, which is confusing at best, but definitely helpful.

What brings you joy? How is it helping you in your study of aikido?

Best to you all!

Re: What brings you joy...

My joy is to have a balanced life that includes interacting with good natured people, intellectual work, and an honest living. If you took one of those things away, there is no joy.

There was one person that has hurt me very badly in the past then neglected me, and I have found that being with good supportive and good natured people to bring me out of very sad times and into actual joy. It makes a world of difference.

I came to aikido because I like to practice fighting without hurting each other (as much as possible). If the purpose is ever to hurt the other person, I'm leaving, no discussions. I didn't think such a martial art was possible before and this is what I want to stay with. It's quite fun and joyous.
