The "B" List
I have a list that I call the "B" list. The "B" list is people I don't take advice or direction from on how to do something correctly.
For example;
Marriage advice from people who've never been married,
Marriage advice from people who were but aren't now,
Parental advice from people with no children,
Parental advice from people with children younger than mine,
Parental advice from people with screwed up children,
How to drive a car from someone that has never had a license,
How to drive a car from someone with a suspended license.
How to drive a car from a passenger (except of course my wife).
How to drive a car from someone with major front end damage on theirs.
At the top of my list is drink coffee made from someone who does not drink coffee.
Well I think you get my drift.
Who's on your 'B" list.

What if they were like, "He really started to take a turn for the worse when i chained him to that radiator. I probably should have listened to him instead?"

Re: The "B" List
Apropos of children: when I was about 13 yrs old, looking at family and friends and how the kids and dogs were, I formulated the If Janet Were Queen Family Planning Rule:
You want kids? Here's a three month old puppy. We will come back in a year and see how you do with it. If its peeing on the floor, biting the mailman, chewing its fur off, running in repetitive circles in the house, barking at nothing or chained in the yard all day....no kids for you!
Nothing I've seen/experienced in the decades since has altered my opinion....

I'll have to add to that to my "B" list.
And you were talking about dogs not children right?

Re: The "B" List
I will say that people who have seemingly failed, have probably learned through their mistakes. So eventhough they appear to not live by their own advice, they may have learned their lessons after the fact, and therefore have good advice to give based on what they learned through their own shortcomings.
I can give anyone solid financial advice, but I don't think I've ever made money on anything I invested in. The reason my advice is worthwhile is because I have personally encountered many pitfalls which I could help others avoid.

That would be the "C" list.
What to do that isn't correct.
That would be an extremely long list.
Just like someone telling me why their marriage failed so don't do the same thing.
I would rather have someone tell me what they did to make their marriage succeed. Preferably their first marriage.

Happy wife, happy life. You can be right, or you can be happy.
Every husband should know those little pearls of wisdom. Btw, never been married, lol.

Re: The "B" List
I think it's a mistake to believe that because someone isn't standing exactly in your shoes right at this moment, they don't have any insight worth listening to, but it's your mistake to make.
