Exchange Student in Japan?

Hey all.

I am in the final year of high school, and they are offering an exchange student program. I would really like to go on it, and as an aikidoka,and someone very interested in Japanese culture etc., my first choice would obviously be Japan. I wonder if any of you could share your thoughts on this, and experiences(if there are any) - what would one's opportunities for training be, would the people be friendly etc etc. It seems to be the perfect way to experience my own "Angry White Pajamas", as such.

What do you guys think?

Take this opportunity to explore other cultures. Being able to take a close look of another culture that you have an interest in, first hand, is an opportunity that mustn't be missed.

My advice, even though I never went to Japan but I was an overseas student once myself, is to keep an open mind, watch what you say and do, make friends, but most of all, have fun.

I was an exchange student in an Osaka university 4 years ago. I had a good time although I didn't do much aikido.

I think there are plenty of opportunities for training. There are schools just about everywhere. If you are coming here (I am in Japan now) to study, most probably your school will have an aikido club or there may be one in the area.

As for the people. Most of them have little to no interaction with non asians (I am asuming you are not oriental) so they can be very shy at first.

Best way to get accepted is to give them the impression you know and respect their culture, customs and traditions.
