Smile Re: Training Dilemma

Hello,

You seem to be asking should I go for Aikido Technique or Aikido Principles ? an Instructor or a Sensei ? A Technician or a Teacher ? The answer is a Teacher, with Aikido Principles, you can both develop and share your improved technical ability together in the same time.

Re: Training Dilemma

Interesting perspective on the dilemma, but very accurate. With a true sensei (teacher) you get to learn together from each other. However, a technician will only transmit knowledge one way; his way!

Thank you for your consideration of my reply.

Aikido is a subject that teaches us to deal with change, in all its aspects. Most of us are at first only interested in the tools to do this. We are not an electric switch that simply moves to produce light. We are animate beings, and we require a little time to understand the process. Once having understood we can make the correction to technical skills, should it be necessary for ourselves or others. Because we have the principles that govern them, and know how to do so. A Sensei is on the path or the way, and can point the way for us.

Frequently we benefit in many ways that we had not considered at the outset.

It may also be true to say at the outset we have no skills to assess what we are looking at, because we have no real basis to assess. So we may have to take at first the advice of those that we believe do have the abilities we seek, only to change our minds later should we decide that this is not true. Too many fall in to the trap of false loyalties, encouraged by deceivers. You have had some good advice on this thread, so now commit yourself to an action.

Sorry to have gone on a bit, but I believe all Aikidoka are important to God, life, creation and each other.

God Bless your decision.
