Re: Looking for alternative to Aikikai

I checked out the websites, very interesting stuff. Long Island is a bit far for me. HOWEVER, I will schedule a visit and maybe a daily mat fee. It definitely looks worth while. i love the structured layout and explanations of the program.

As for the gentleman, who gave suggestions about how to address the seminar kyu issue and technical corrections, I will do so. Asking never hurts and more than likely I will find out something I didn't know or develop a new approach.

Btw, I love experimenting with a technique. Helpful people make training more enjoyable.

Wow so much good info...this is great for a 4TH Kyu, like me..LOL

Re: Looking for alternative to Aikikai

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but I just saw it. You may want to consider Takumakai Daito-ryu/aikido. There is a dojo in the city that offers an intro course: http://yushinkan.org/introductory-course/
I don't know much about this dojo but I briefly met Mori sensei and Kawabe sensei when I was in Japan this summer and they seemed like nice enough guys. They are also *very* talented budoka. I'm sure any dojo under them is top notch.

I'm sure you already know about Hisa sensei but in case you don't he studied with both Ueshiba sensei and Takeda sensei. He held 8th dan in aikido and menkyo kaiden in Daito-ryu. http://www.aikidojournal.com/article?articleID=61
This might be an interesting chance to see some very different sort of aikido.

Best reagrds,

Antonia:

My Ears Have Been Burning!

I personally train at Shin-Budo Kai in New York City. The instructor, Imaizumi Sensei was a direct student of O'Sensei and one of the top people in Ki Society. If you are a full-time student (college, high school, trade school,etc....), the dojo offers a very nice discount. To me, if you can train with somebody at that level, then you will very lucky to receive hands-on training with a shrinking group who studied under the founder. This school also happens to have a wonderful bunch of caring students.

I am flattered that people would actually suggest that you check out training at my school. They simply have more confidence in me than I do. That is why I work so hard with a group of outstanding teachers, so that one day, maybe, just maybe, I would consider what I do good (currently, I consider what I do marginally acceptable). My school is located in Bedford Hills, New York. The school is conveniently located right near the Bedford Hills train station (metro north, harlem line- 1hr. ride from grand central). If you are ever up in the area, first class is always on the house! Two week free coupons are also available. You can also call me at my school at any time to discuss any aspects of training at Shin-Budo Kai in NYC or at my school.

Good Luck in Your Search!
