Hello Don,
Well, the older I become, the less time I seem to have, but you are right. I really should get down to it and follow in the footsteps of people like Ellis A.
Actually, I have my suspicions about the 'carving steps up a cliff ' explanation, but I will wait until I have all the evidence before posting.

Clint, I learned that we use 'yon' instead of 'shi' for 4th dan because 'shi' also has the same meaning as 'death'.

I'm thinking one for history, one for technique, one for Jpn society, one for etymology, one for rigorous investigation of claims to spirituality...
