RE: World Games 2005 in Germany

Today it is very difficult to distinguish between a digital camera and a digital film camera. It will be to much work for us to control every camera at this event. Further there are copyrights of the TV-industries. Out of this reason we decided to prohibit every kind of camera. Sorry, I can't give you another answer.

Best wishes,

20 Euros is an amazingly good price for such a video.
Let's hope the shipping cost to the USA is reasonable as well.

Yes! Details please! I heard from my instructor that was there that it was insane how much people there were (1500 people at the aikido seminars only!).

Re: World Games 2005 in Germany

I just came back from the 2005 World Games seminar.

I truly enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to train under Doshu, Tessier sensei, Kobayashi sensei, Fujimoto sensei and Asai sensei.

The demonstrations by various Aikido groups from 12 different countries plus Asai sensei's and Doshu's demonstrations were breathtaking.

However, on the negative side, there were simply too many participants and not enough mat space to train. People were bumping into one another all over the place. I got kicked on the side of my head and stepped on several times.

The teachers are top-notched, but the facility is totally inadequate.
I am under the impression that the organizers of the seminar had underestimated the number of participants and came up short in terms of mat space.

I hope the organizers of the 2009 World games will learn from this experience and provide better facilities to accommodate the seminar participants.

World Games 2005 in Germany

Dear all,
and Dung Nguyen,

there were 1800 participants. We had organized round about 2600 square meter of tatami and we had a place of 800 square meter for practicing jo and bokken. We didn't get more space from the World Games organization. I have to apologize me in the name of the Aikikai Germany, but we had done what we could do.

Dung Nguyen we didn't meet us. But the people I had spoken were amazed about the event and the organization. In the years before this event I was on many seminars like this and it was always the same compression of people. It is a little like a morning class of the Doshu in Hombu Dojo in Tokyo.

By the way:
We will produce a DVD.
The DVD (probably a Double Layer DVD (8.5 Gbyte) with up to 4 hours Video) will contain the following chapters:
- Official Demonstrations with the Doshu and other prominent Aikido Masters
- Jubilee Seminars with the Doshu and Japanese and European Aikido Masters
- Official Celebrations of the 40th Anniversary of Aikido in Germany and 50 years Aikido by Master Asai
- Party with the Big Bonsai Brothers Band.

You can order this DVD and a anniversary T-Shirt under http://www.aikikai.de

Best regards

Hi Thomas,

Congratulations on organizing such a great event. 1800 participants is quite a lot!

Re: World Games 2005 in Germany

Hi Thomas:

Thank you for responding to my feedback and sharing some of the behind-the -scene constraints that you had to work with.

Overall, your organization had done an outstanding job hosting the event. The staff were very friendly and, in my special case, very quick to correct a minor problem concerning my registration for the seminar. I have nothing but praise for them.

I am not sure if this is the right forum to post my feedbacks on the seminar. Should you want to hear more from me in private, please feel free to send me e-mail.

I look forward to purchasing the DVD when it comes out.

May abundant peace be with you always!

Dung "Zung" Nguyen
no, Dung "Zung"!
Please let us all know your impressions. The only harm it will make is, that I will get annoyed not having attended, as Duisburg is much closer for me (2 hours ride) than the next place in China (if there is aikido again).

Regards Dirk
