Advertising a class

Hi,

This is my first time at the Forum and I hope one someone out there may be able to help me.

I run a small Aikido class in North Wales, England and we are intending to have a bit of a recruiting drive.

At the moment the class itself barely pays for the hire of the hall hence the recruiting drive.

We have decided to put together a poster as this is the way that appears to cost the least apart from word of mouth.

I am happy with the wording of the poster but I am struggling to find any decent Aikido pictures/photos on the web to include on the Poster that haven't got a copyright on them.

I do not wish to upset anyone by using pictures without asking so I thought a good place to start would be to ask my fellow AikiWeb members for some help.

How about (some staged) pictures of you and your students/fellow members?

That way you could say "Yeah, that's me beating the soup out of Charles over there." when asked who's in the photos...

I'm with Nick. When my sensei makes flyers, he always uses photos from our own dojo...sometimes ones that I have taken.

Be sure to include a small photo of the founder, O Sensei. In gassho

I saw your post and while I also think that photos from your own dojo would be best, you're welcome to use any that I have on our web site. You can truthfully say they were taken in North Wales.

Here's another idea on how to get photos....

On Friday, I put together a press release for our move to our new dojo.....now, I've worked in Marketing before, but never as a PR person....writing a press release is easy enough, but I wasn't sure how to distribute it...so it was a total experiment. I emailed it to 3 of our local papers at an email address I found on-line.

24 hours later, they called and want to come and take some 'action' pictures to go along with a story about the grand opening....cool! We've been doing posters and flyers, and we do pick up some people from those....but news stories carry a lot more weight (I've found that even the large national paper will carry free local announcements on certain days....and I get a lot of calls from those ads when they run).

Just an additional thought....
