Evil Eyes Aikido Begginer

Hiya, my name is Sammy (Obviously. And, Hmm.. My first class of Aikido starts in two days, at the Monterey Dojo, in California. Aikido seems like a cool art, mainly because its not like the common "American Karate" used in the US. But, I have a couple questions about it. I went to a class and watched the Sensei and the students. I am sort of lost with the style of fighting. Is there kicking + punching involved? Or is it mainly throwing? I hear you use your center of balance alot. What things are involved? Hold on, the phone is ringing. o_o MmmKay. Now I can get back to watching my "Married With Children" show. So, can someone basicly tell me about Aikido? Thanks.
