Re: Wichita KS dojo??

My wife is from Wichita, and from what her family says there isn't really anything there. You might have to start one. If we ever move there, I will help out, but then again, I can't think of a good reason to move there.

Re: Wichita KS dojo??

Just looked at the USAF site. It says that the only dojo in KS is at KSU in Manhattan. It's a pretty long drive from Wichita, but you could probably visit occasionally.

Re: Wichita KS dojo??

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of! Yes Wichita is not a destination kind of place. If anyone else here wants to practice I'd be open to trying to find a space.
Thanks again.

Re: Wichita KS dojo??

There used to be a USAF dojo there, but it closed a while ago. Closest one is in Kansas City or Springfield MO. I understand there's a Tamiki Aikido club at WSU.

Re: Wichita KS dojo??

thanks very much. that is what I suspected. I may visit the Tamiki club but the style is so much different than the various other Aikido styles I have practiced. I have to learn a new vocabulary, etc. I was hoping to have more options but thanks everyone for the quick response!

Re: Wichita KS dojo??

Stace,

The instructor at the WSU Aikido club is Walter Lee. He was my first student when I started teaching Tomiki style Aikido in Denton, Texas, back in 1996. He is very knowledgeable with a devotion to proper technique and perspective. He is also one of the best human beings I have had the pleasure of calling friend. You would find it hard to do better than to join him in exploring the workings and utility of Aikido. He also practices Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo (Seitei Kata). You can get contact information at http://webs.wichita.edu/?u=HESKETTCE...tclubs/aikido/.

Re: Wichita KS dojo??

Not that this helps a whole lot, but it's not too too far away from Witchita.

Thanks JackB - I have traded emails with Sensei Lee and I will give Tomiki style a try. and thanks again everyone for your comments. Ponca City might be worth a trip on a Saturday from time to time.

My Kansas geography is not good, but Kashiwaya (Ki Society) used to teach there, and has left a presence.
