Martin Luther King, Jr. on the relationship between Power and Love
Being that today is MLK day, I thought that this quote was very applicable our practice in aikido.
"What is needed is a realization that power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love." MLK, jr.

Kevin:
One of my favorites is:
"Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it. It is a sword that heals." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Re: Martin Luther King, Jr. on the relationship between Power and Love
Really love the first two quotes in the thread. I'll add another one of his that I like.
"Man must evolve, for all human conflict, a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love." Martin Luther King Jr.
Sounds a little bit like something we practice, doesn't it?

Re: Martin Luther King, Jr. on the relationship between Power and Love
Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.

Re: Martin Luther King, Jr. on the relationship between Power and Love
Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars... Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.
Martin Luther King Jr.
